Integration of Reduced-Order CFD Models into HSC Sim
Beskrivning:
Join a global leader in process simulation and help shape the future of sustainable mining and metallurgy. Together, we will push the boundaries of innovation and drive smarter, more efficient technologies. At Metso, you’ll be part of a collaborative and inclusive culture where your ideas matter. With us, you’ll grow professionally while contributing to solutions that make a real difference. This is your opportunity to rise above the possible. We are now looking for a driven and curious thesis student to join our team and help develop the next generation of simulation tools. Are you passionate about fluid dynamics, system modeling and digital innovation? Then this could be the perfect challenge for you! Metso is a pioneer in sustainable technology, offering complete solutions and services for aggregate production, mineral processing and metal refining worldwide. We believe in using the world’s natural resources responsibly, and we’re committed to continuous improvement through cutting edge research and development. At Metso, you’ll be part of a global network of experts, with opportunities to learn, grow and make an impact. In this thesis, you will explore how to combine the detailed insights of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) with the system-level efficiency of Metso’s HSC Sim software. Your mission is to develop a workflow and supporting tool that enables seamless integration of reduced-order CFD models into HSC Sim, unlocking new possibilities for process simulation. Your work will include: • Reviewing current methods for reduced-order modeling in CFD and the Functional Mock-up Interface (FMI) standard. • Designing a generic workflow for creating and exporting ROMs from Ansys Fluent via Ansys optiSLang. • Developing a user-friendly tool (e.g., Python or .NETbased) to automate key steps in the integration process. • Demonstrating the workflow through a relevant case study in mining or metallurgy, comparing full CFD, ROM-based, and system-only simulations. Our expectations of you We’re looking for a master’s student in engineering, physics, or a related field with a strong interest in simulation technologies. You should be familiar with CFD tools (preferably Ansys Fluent), programming (Python or .NET), and have a structured, analytical mindset. Experience with system simulation or FMI standards is a plus. You communicate well in English and enjoy working both independently and in teams. A workplace that inspires innovation and collaboration At Metso, you’ll be surrounded by passionate professionals and cutting-edge technologies. Whether you’re working from our inspiring office in Skellefteå or collaborating remotely, you’ll be part of a team that values creativity, knowledge sharing and real-world impact. We believe in learning by doing—and we’ll support you every step of the way.
